Animal Welfare Coalition

The Heritage Humane Society is a founding member of the Animal Welfare Coalition of Hampton Roads, and shares in the great success of this organization. AWCHR received a commendation from the 2004 General Assembly for its efforts to end the euthanasia of healthy, adoptable animals. The HHS has made great progress towards that goal, as well. Visit the link below to view their commendation:

HHS Perpetual Book Fund-WRL and HHS working together to Educate

We are proud to join with The Williamsburg Regional Library as partners to help promote each other's relationship. Please visit their on-line catalog at www.wrl.org to locate information pertaining to pets, pet care or any other topic you are interested in. Through a private endowment, a perpetual book fund was established in 2000 at the Williamsburg Regional Library on behalf of the Shelter. All money donated to the Book Fund is used to purchase children's books about animals, both wild and domestic. These books are available at both Library branches. In exchange for our support, each volume has a book plate, indicating it was donated by the Heritage Humane Society. Contributions to the Book Fund should be made as usual to the HHS and designated for the book fund.

Antiques Mall Booth

Did you know that the ladies of the Auxiliary maintain a booth out at the Williamsburg Antique Mall in Lightfoot? We are always in need of people to volunteer a few hours to help wrap purchased items in exchange for this booth. If you have any free time on Friday (Saturday will do also) from 1-6pm or would like to donate an item, please contact the shelter at 221-0150 or e-mail info@heritagehumanesociety.org and let them know you would like to help at the Antique Mall.

Recycle

Printer Cartridge Recycling Program benefits the animals!

HHS now offers a way for you to dispose of used printer & inkjet cartridges that will help fund animal care and help the environment too! HHS receives a rebate when we send your used cartridges to a recycler who has provided us with free mailers for that purpose. You can deliver them to our shelter at any time.

Bark in the Park 2008

Over 700 people (walkers, Rescue Groups, Vendors, Sponsors and, of course, volunteers!) joined us April 26, 2008 from 9am-1pm in beautiful New Quarter Park~1000 Lakeshead Dr.~Willilamsburg, for a wonderful morning of socializing, walking, and Festival events. A wonderful time was had by all!  We are hoping to see everyone back in 2009.  Visit our Bark in the Park page to read more.

Important date to remember:

  • April 25, 2009 - Bark in the Park 2009 at New Quarter Park from 9am-1pm

Visit the Dog Park at Waller Mill Park!

Thanks to the efforts of many and James City County and the city of Williamsburg, we can now enjoy a quiet, shady spot to let our friends off-lead and to make new friends.

The City of Williamsburg has posted information about the dog park on their website at http://www.ci.williamsburg.va.us/dept/rec/dogpark.htm     Dog park rules are also posted on the website at http://www.ci.williamsburg.va.us/dept/rec/dprules.htm

The park will be open during normal park hours which in June are from 7 AM to 8 PM. Pets must first be registered which can be accomplished at the Park's Operations Office.  Go armed with your pet's rabies certificate as well as proof of licensing.  With appropriate ID, Williamsburg and JCC residents can obtain an annual pass for their first dog for $10 and an additional dog for $5.  Non-residents with appropriate ID for their pet can obtain a daily use pass for $2.

Now go out and have fun!
